General Assembly Report
The 179th meeting of the General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian church took place in Memphis, Tennessee on June 14-19. The Minister Commissioners from our presbytery were: Merlyn Alexander, Larry Blakeburn, Paul Criss, Terry Hunley, and Stuart Dyer. The Elder Commissioners were: Sam Price, Jerry Covington, Bill Jones, Debbie Marston, and Tammy Russing. Our Youth Advisory Delegates were: Mitch Brown and Ambher Denbow.
• Elected Sam Suddarth, elder commissioner from Columbia Presbytery, moderator and Cliff Hudson, minister commissioner from Tennessee/Georgia Presbytery, vice moderator.
• Expressed appreciation for the work of Pat White (editor of the CP magazine) for her 23+ years of served to the denomination.
• Introduced Edith Gholson, the new Director of Ministries of our denomination.
• Proposed Amendments to the Constitution which are essential to approve a change in method of persons becoming candidates for ministry, allowing licentiates to perform the Sacraments under certain circumstances and to establish the Office of Certified Lay Minister failed to receive approval by three fourths of the presbyteries.
• The office of the General Assembly was authorized to print the minutes electronically in lieu of a hard copy.

• Emphasized the desire to have a Cumberland Presbyterian fill the position of Communications Team Leader for the Ministry Council.
• Affirmed the importance of the Cumberland Presbyterian magazine continuing in printed format.
• Affirmed the value of Opening Doors to Discipleship, the online training resource, and encouraged congregations to take advantage of this leadership development resource.
• Offered a prayer of thanks to God for the life and ministry of Dr. Hubert W. Morrow.
• Expressed appreciation for the creation of the Baird-Buck Chair of Cumberland Presbyterian Studies at Memphis Theological Seminary and encouraged churches and individuals to give to this endowment.
• Rejoiced with Bethel College in its historical and significant decision to become Bethel University.
• Encouraged each presbytery to compile a comprehensive directory of the congregations within its bounds and that, if possible, these directories include maps, a photograph of the church and a brief church history, and to be placed on file prior to the bicentennial celebration of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 2010.
• In 2010 the General Assemblies of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church will meet concurrently in Dickson, Tennessee June 13-18 to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Church. The theme is “What Do These Stones Mean?” based on Joshua 4:6-7. On Tuesday, June 15, a large portion of the day will be spent at the Birthplace Shrine at Montgomery Bell State Park.

Presbytery Report
West Tennessee Presbytery met with the Newbern Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Elder Steve Clark was our delegate to this meeting. Rev. Blakeburn and Rev. Annetta Camp also attended this meeting.
• Rev. Jonathan Clark, moderator of General Assembly, delivered the message during the worship service led by Rev. Linda Glenn.
• Endorsed Rev. Larry Blakeburn for moderator of the 179th General Assembly meeting in Memphis the week of June 7th.
• Tabled a resolution for West Tennessee Presbytery to secure financing for $1.8 million for building the first unit for the Medina New Church Development.
• Received Michael Terry Lavender and Marian Sontowski as candidates for the ministry … Recognized the ordination of James Wilson … Dropped Joyce Young as a candidate for the ministry.
• Adjourned to meet October 3, 2009 at the Olivet Church in Savannah, TN.

Diaconate Report
The Diaconate of the Cumberland Presbytrian Church met January 12, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Suzanne Edwards opened the meeting with devotion and prayer. A quorum was present.
Deacons present:
Class of 2010 - Cheryl Cobb, Barbara Gatlin, Faye Hendren, Cal Johnson, Rob Kerr. Class of 2011 - Alison Coleman, Mike Harris, Tony Hendren, Gina Moore, Nancy Petty, Danny Watson. Class of 2012 - Becky Hamilton, Coleen Jamison, Paula Mohead, Greg Moore, Larry Voss and Clete Youmans.
Deacon Excused:
Pat McCutcheon (Class of 2010)
Also Present:
Dr. Blakeburn, Pastor; Brad Sanko, Minister of Music; and Matt Tyler, Minister of Youth.
Approval of Minutes:
On motion, the minutes of the "Joint Meeting of Session & Diaconate" of December 15, 2009, were approved.
New Business:
Election of Officers: Nominations were made and elected officers include:Chairperson (Tony Hendren), Vice-Chairman (Greg Moore), Secretary (Clete Youmans), and Treasurers (Danny Watson and Becky Hamilton).
Ministry Team Reports:
Finance (C. Youmans) - On motion, the December written report was received.
Music (B. Sanko) - The "Evening of Sweets and Songs" will be February 20 and youth will participate.
Physical Plant (D. Watson) - HVAC fixed. Freezer compressor replaced. Lighthouse adjuster should arrive this week.(water damage)
Youth (M. Tyler) - 27 dates of events were mentioned. Youth to have community outreach for Texans by collecting loose change. High club to support Salvation Army February 10. BBQ tickets should be on sale by February 1st (BBQ is March 6). On motion, the written report was received.
Other Business:
Spring picnic (April 21): will have Deacons manning the "inflated rides."
Logos: Paula Mohead mentioned she is currently setting up the 2010 fall Logos program, anyone interested in helping should contact her.
Journey: Deacons will run the AGAPE Cafe on January 17. Deacons responsible for Agape Cafe on May 2 and July 25.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 9, 2010, 7:00 p.m. Paula Mohead will have the opening devotion.

Session Report
The Session of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church met January 19, 2010 at 7:00 pm. at the church.
Moderator Rev. Dr. Larry Blakeburn calle dthe meeting to order and Elder Tim Orr opened with prayer. A quorum was present.
Elders present: Sammy Arnold, Tracy Clark, Danny Dedmon, Edie Ford, Albert Fowlkes, James P. Green, Jeff Lay, Willilam Mallard, James Mohead, John Moore, Martha Murray, Tim Orr, Bill Parmenter, Ricky Petty, and Green Smitheal III.
Elders excused: Kenneth Coleman, Lyman Ingram, and Gene Parnell.
Also present: Minister of Christian Education, Annetta Camp; Minister of Music, Brad Sanko; Minister of Youth, Matt Tyler; and John Hamilton, Chariman of the Diaconate.
Approval of Minutes:
On motion the joint minutes of the December 15 2009 Session na dDiaconate meeting were approved.
Communications:
Approved the request from Bethel University for use of the FLC classroom(s) for a new Bethel Success class on Thursday nights, beginning March 25 for 14 months 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Approved the request from the ladies in MOPS to reserve a church facility for a baby shower for a lady in the MOPS group on February 7, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Approved the request of the Circle of Friends to hold a fundraiser yard sale on March 6 with proceeds goin gto mission projects.
Approved the request of William Andrew Mallard for financial support for an annual mission trip February 20 thru February 28 with Christian Medical an dDental Association in the Dominican Republic. Approved support in the amount of $500.00.
Old Business:
Communion was served at the 8:30 a.m. and the 10:40 a.m. services on January 3, 2010.
New Business:
Elder William Mallard was elected Clerk of the Session with Elder Tracy Clark being elected Assistant Clerk.
Pastor's Report:
On motion the written report was received and the three recommendations approved.
Randy boatright will be added to the Congregational Care Ministry Team along iwth the addition of Annetta Camp and Larry Blakeburn as staff liaison.
Youth:
On motion the written report was received.
Christian Education Ministry Team:
On motion the written report was received.
Evangelism Ministry Team:
On motion the written report was received. It was reported the Benevolence Committee is in the process of reorganizing. On motion to ask Evangelism Ministry Team to develop a disaster relief plan for our local community so our church may be of assistance.
Worship Ministry Team:
On motion the written report was received with the Worship Ministry Team to evaluate plans for December 26th.
Finance Ministry Team:
On motion the written report was received. Also the salary allocation requests for 2010 will be directed to the finance ministry team for its recommendation to the session.
Computer Ministry Team:
On motion the written report was received.
Other Business:
Motion made and passed to suggest to parishioners to give contributions for the Haiti disaster throught the church. Contributions should be identified as for the Haiti disaster. These contributions will be channeled through the local Red Cross office.
Membership:
Jerry and Pam Hastings have transferred their membership from Frist United Methodist Church.
Martha Francis Tickle passed away on January 18, 2010. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21 at Fairview Cemetery conducted by Rev. Annetta Camp.

On motion the minutes of the November 17, 2009 Session meeting were approved.
Communications:
Approved the request from Heath Gray, Cub Master for Pack 88, to use the fellowship hall for their annual Pinewood Derby on january 23, 2010.
Approved the request from Cristy Richards, President of the DSCC Nursing class of 2010 to use church sanctuary and fellowship hall for their pinning ceremony on May 7, 2010. Request approved subject to $100 payment for a sound technician for use of the sound system if our system is used.
Old Business:
Communion was served at the 8:30 a.m. an the 10:40 a.m. services on December 6, 2009.

On motion the 2010 Proposed Church Budget was approved with the finance ministry team having approval authority to adjust employee health insurance if needed.

Ministry team members for 2012 were approved as presented with the addition of the following individuals:
Misic: Ginny Ramage(2), Tona Roberts, Patty Gibson, and Amy Hendren (filling the unexpired term of Steve Bryant, 2010).
Christian Education:Nancy Barrineau (2) and Tom Skehan (2).
